Jute Rugs

Jute rugs are a great choice for your home and the environment—jute rugs are naturally derived, biodegradable, and economical.

Braided or handwoven by skilled artisans, these rugs can be used to create an organic look. Jute rugs are moderately soft and, as a result, are generally less durable than other materials such as wool or synthetic fibers.

Because natural jute fibers are highly absorbent, they are best suited for dry, well-ventilated environments. Moisture can damage the fibers of the rugs and potentially cause discoloration.

Pop-ups (or pills) are a normal feature of handmade rugs. Pop-ups occur when the end threads become visible in the weave. This is part of the nature of a handmade rug and can be trimmed or pushed back without affecting the integrity of the weave.

Jute is a sustainable, extremely durable, and long-lasting fiber. Given its hand-woven nature, slight color variations are inherent in the design of each rug.

Instructions and Care

  • Rotate the rug every 3 months to prevent fading and uneven wear.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight, as it will fade the color of the rug.
  • Vacuum frequently, using a low-power vacuum cleaner, preferably one without a beater bar.
  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent UV damage or fading.
  • Absorb liquid spills immediately. No spot cleaning; never use liquids on jute rugs. Avoid rubbing stains, which causes them to set deeper.
  • Professional cleaning is recommended; send the rug to a professional service with experience in cleaning natural fiber rugs.
  • To preserve the life of the rug, we recommend using a non-slip mat.
